The latest news coming out of weight loss research is nothing anyone wanted to hear, but no surprise. It really doesn't matter what diet you chose, it's all about calories. In a simple equation of take in less than you expend, weight loss experts explained what we all already knew. With that taken into consideration, here are three factors that will help you lose weight more successfully. Eat Healthy It is impossible to believe that anyone alive has somehow avoided knowledge of the food pyramid. Breads and grains are at the bottom, fruit and vegetables above that, proteins and dairy on the third level, and fats and sugars on top. Each level up indicates a reduction in the portions you should eat. Of course, it is also important to have some concrete idea of what constitutes a portion size. That said, it isn't enough to just eat anything in the right quantity. There is a tremendous difference, nutritionally, between eating a slice of white, supermarket bread and eating the same amount of a whole grain loaf. If you are seeking to lose weight you need to focus upon nutrient dense foods like whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables.

In order for a person to begin to lose weight and avoid crash dieting, there are six pillars of nutrition. These pillars, or steps are progressive and one leads naturally to the next one. These pillars facilitate a lifestyle change rather than a crash diet that rarely works and often creates a yo-yo effect on a person’s weight. First Pillar - Eat five or six meals a day. This spreads meals over the course of a day rather than just eating one or two large meals a day which is not good on the body. Second Pillar - Limit your consumption of sugar or processed foods. This includes soft drinks, frozen dinners, even “sports drinks” – Gatorade, vitamin water, all those types of drinks. You should also limit your intake of processed foods and deli meats. Third Pillar - Eat more fruits and vegetables. This provides you lots of vitamins and minerals, they’re going to boost your health; they are not very calorie-dense, so you’re going to be able to eat a large volume of food without getting in many calories. Pillar 4 - Drink more water and cut out calorie-containing beverages.
One of my friends eats natto, which is basically fermented soybeans. He's doesn't really like or dislike it. Eating natto is just one thing he does for his health like exercising, getting enough sleep, and eating fruits and vegetables. He sometimes has natto rolls with green onions when he goes out for sushi, and he eats natto at home, mixed with a variety of ingredients. He likes the light natto a little better than the dark natto. My friend -- we will call him Fred -- doesn't tell anyone Japanese that he eats natto unless he is asked directly. He is not ashamed of eating natto, but just doesn't want to participate in the natto dialogue. Natto, if you have never tasted it before, has a rather strong taste. He won't even attempt to describe it. If I push him, he asks me to describe vegemite. I search for words and can only say that it is really strong and salty, not exactly an eloquent description. Fred relents and says that natto is really strong and tastes a bit like beans. Fred is the first to say that his description is not very good.
